Condition Guide

Transparent grading for authentic vintage pieces

We believe in radical transparency. Every piece is thoroughly inspected and honestly graded using our detailed condition standards.

๐ŸŽฏ Our Grading Philosophy

Honest Assessment

We grade conservatively and document every flaw. We'd rather under-promise and over-deliver than disappoint our collectors.

Remember: vintage pieces are 25-30+ years old. Some wear is expected and often adds to the authentic character.

Understanding Common Vintage Characteristics

๐ŸŽจ Graphic Condition

Cracking

Natural result of age and wear. "Stable cracking" means no active flaking. Adds authentic vintage character.

Fading

Colors soften over time. Often creates beautiful vintage patina that's highly sought after by collectors.

Ink Loss

Partial graphic loss from washing/wear. We document exactly what's missing and remaining clarity.

๐Ÿงต Fabric Condition

Pinholes

Tiny holes from age/wear. Very common in vintage cotton. Usually stabilized and not growing.

Thinning

Fabric becomes thinner with age. Creates soft, worn texture that many collectors prefer.

Period Repairs

Old repairs or patches. Actually add to authenticity and show the piece was loved and cared for.

๐Ÿ‘” Collar & Cuff Wear

Bacon Collar

Wavy, stretched collar from age. Classic vintage characteristic that's completely normal.

Cuff Wear

Fraying or holes at sleeves. Shows authentic wear patterns from decades of use.

Hem Distress

Bottom edge wear, small holes, or fraying. Part of natural aging process.

๐Ÿ” Stains & Discoloration

Age Spots

Brown spots from long-term storage. Often mistaken for stains but are natural aging.

Pit Stains

Yellowing under arms from wear. Documented when present but often barely visible.

Period Stains

Original stains from concerts, travel, etc. Part of the piece's authentic history.

Condition FAQ

Q: Is "Good" condition bad?

Q: Can I get more detailed photos?

A: Absolutely. We're happy to provide additional close-up photos of any areas you'd like to inspect before purchase.

Q: Do you grade compared to other vintage sellers?

A: We grade conservatively compared to most sellers. Our "Good" is often other sellers' "Excellent." We believe in under-promising and over-delivering.

Q: What if the condition is better than described?

A: This happens often! We grade conservatively, so many customers are pleasantly surprised by the actual condition upon arrival.
